Introduction
The 1960's were an exciting time in our history.  During that time there were many changes in people's lives as Americans were being challenged by the new attitudes and ideas presented. In the following activity, as you gather information, reflect on the ideas presented and keep in mind some of the contrasts and comparisons to our lives today.


Questions

1.  Who were the four presidents of the United States during the 1960's?
2.  Who is Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy and what contributions did she make to the White House?

3a.  What was Malcolm X's real name?

3b.  In January of 1965, what message did Malcolm give to young people?

3c.  What did Martin Luther King, Jr. write about his differences with Malcolm X?

Summarize your ideas about the 1960's.  What do you like about that time period?  What things do you not like?  Would you like to have lived during that decade?  If you had lived then then, what things would you have liked to experience?
