Weather Forecasting
For centuries people have attempted to forecast the weather to assist them in their daily lives. For example farmers needed to know when to plant and harvest their crops, travelers needed to know when to travel, and sailors wanted to sail during good weather. In today's world weather forecasting is important in all aspects of life. The space shuttle, planes, and other forms of transportation depend on the weather forecast for the safety of passengers. The weather forecast is also important for the closing of schools during inclement weather. Many other industries such as construction and farming also depend on the weather forecast.
The forecasting of weather today is a science called Meteorology. It does not depend on old folk sayings. It is dependent on scientific inquiry and the use of many sophisticated weather instruments and computers that assist the meteorologist in the forecasting of the weather.
