Introduction
    This treasure hunt will lead you through the many features that make the oceans unique.  Use the Internet resources below to answer the questions that follow on a separate sheet of paper. When you have finished the eight questions, use an essay format to answer the Big Question. The Big Question asks you to combine what you have learned through this treasure hunt.    


Questions
      1.    The ocean covers what percent of the Earth’s surface and contains what percent of the Earth’s water?
      2.    Why is salt water denser than fresh water? Hint: Look at the experiment)

      4.    If the ocean’s total salt content were dried, how much of the continents would it cover?
      5.    What layer of the ocean most influences why we have waves?
      6.    What influences spring and neap tides?
      7.    Where are the highest tides in the world? How big are they?
      8.    What is the lowest point on Earth? Where is it located?

Congratulations! You successfully surfed the net and found many interesting facts about the ocean. You should now be able to use this information you found to complete a well constructed essay about
what makes the ocean unique. You can get a copy of the rubric from your teacher to see what components need to be included in your essay.
