Instructions

Research one of the following Scientists or inventors. Spend a little time looking at the various sites to decide which African-American you want to research. You will need to gather the following information.

·        When they lived

·        Where they lived

·        What they invented or what their most important accomplishment was

·        What inspired them to do what they did

·        Obstacles they had to overcome

·        How our lives have changed as a result of their accomplishment/invention

·        Pictures or graphics saved to your folder to use in your project

Use a graphic organizer to keep track of the information you are gathering. Do not copy; use your own words or paraphrase. Keep track of your sources. If you want to use a direct quote, be sure to identify the specific source. You may use classroom and library books in addition to the web sites listed as sources. Please be aware that this information will be used in our project with the High School Seniors. You will pretend to be the person you have researched and your High School partner will interview you. The more you know about your scientist/inventor, the better able you will be to answer the questions they ask.

After you have completed your research, you will use your notes and your graphics to create 3 or 4 Power Point slides. The slides should include the bulleted information above, a picture of the inventor/scientist, and any other appropriate graphics. You will create the slides as if YOU are the inventor talking about yourself. You will be graded using the attached rubric. We will put the slides together and send them to our High School Buddies.

Have fun, and see what interesting information you can find about one of these amazing Americans.
