Use the following websites in order to answer all of the questions. Click here to print a worksheet to record your answers.

 

   Questions

1.)  How much time is required for a 165lb. person to burn 300 calories by playing the guitar (rock and roll)? 

2.) How much time is required for a 140lb. person to burn 300 calories by aerobic dancing  (low impact)?

3.) If a 205 lb. person spends 45 minutes running 6.7 mph (9 min/mile), how many calories will he/she burn?

4.) List three activities a 175lb. person could do if they wanted to burn 600 calories in 30 minutes or less?

5.) A 16 year old male who weighs 150 lbs. and is 5 feet 10 inches tall (70 inches) spends 10 hours a day sleeping, 6 hours a day sitting in school, 1 hour at the computer lab, 2 hours at basketball practice, 3 hours clearing tables at a local restaurant, and 2 hours watching television.  How many calories should he consume daily in order to maintain his present weight?

6.) A 16 year old male who weighs 150lbs and is 5 feet 10 inches tall (70 inches) spends 12 hours a day sleeping, 11 hours sitting in school and in front of the television, and 1 hour of playing on the computer.  How many calories should he consume daily in order to maintain his current weight?

7.) How many more calories does the male in question #5 need on a daily basis in order to maintain his current weight?

8.) A 15 year old female ate ONE  McDonald's cheeseburger.  Please fill out the chart on the worksheet.
Hint:  Make sure you check the serving size (1 cheeseburger not one ounce).
   
       Be sure to display all nutrients!!!

9.)  Analyze the following diet that a 15 year old female ate in one day.  Please fill out the chart accordingly for the entire day. Hint: Put all foods in first then hit analyze foods

Breakfast:  2 cups of Maxwell House Vanilla Coffee with three teaspoons of granulated sugar added.
                 2 chocolate glazed doughnuts
   
              1 cup of California chilled orange juice

Lunch:  McDonald's Big Mac, Large French fries, and  24 fluid ounces of  root beer

Snack:  4oz. bag of nacho flavored tortilla chips

Dinner:  3 medium slices of pizza hut pan cheese pizza
             3 plain bread sticks
  
          20 fluid ounces of  carbonated lemon lime soda

Snack: 3 prepared from dry-mix chocolate chip cookies

10.) If an average 15 year old female who requires 2,000 calories a day consumed the diet in question #9, how many calories would she be over her recommended daily allowance?

 

11.) How many calories equal one pound?


12.)  If a person consumes an extra 200 calories per day then he/she expends how many pounds would this person gain in a year?
