The task of this Career Hunt is to get some understanding of where to go for information and to narrow down your choices in your quest to figure out the most suitable occupation for you.  Please use the following tasks to help you with this quest. The links provided can help you with the answers to each question. GOOD LUCK!!!

1.  The first task you will need to complete is to assess yourself to determine what personality type you are most like.  This will help you in narrowing down a good match. So what is your personality type?

You should take some time to research your personality type, a theory created by Dr. Holland, who has matched occupations to certain personality types.  You may wish to take the Self Directed Search (a paper and pen assessment) which your guidance counselor can provide.

Along with this you may research the guide which lists job matches to your personality type.  From there you can read about these occupations in the O.O.H. (The Occupational Outlook Handbook) that is listed below.  Please explore this site, chose a career that matches your interest and personality type and answer the following questions.

2.  Describe (briefly) the nature of the work.  What would you do?

3.  Describe the training and qualifications necessary for this

     career.

4. Describe the Job Outlook for this career.  Will this job still exist when you have completed the training required for this?

You may wish to look for information about colleges and financial planning with your parent/guardian.  You can review some of this on line at….http://www.ed.gov/index.jhtml

Now that you are a little bit more prepared for the work world it would also be a good idea to get your feet wet with some jobs before determining a life long career.  But first you have to get the job.  A lot is determined by a successful interview.  The following information should help you learn more about this and secure the position you apply for.

5.  Name two important tips to having a successful interview.

In addition to the information which you have gathered from this there are a great many factors determining a good match for you and (hopefully) a life long career.  You should start by researching, speaking with adults who are familiar with a particular career, see your counselor, and continue to do some more research at the library.  A particular piece of information may not be in the materials you have found so far.  Another source of information might be the D.O.T. (The Dictionary of Occupational Titles). You can ask your guidance counselor for the DOT or use this online link http://www.wave.net/upg/immigration/dot_index.html. This book will be a great research tool for those hard to find occupations.
