Immigration
Immigrants are people who enter a country to live there. By definition, unless your ancestors were Native American, most of us are immigrants or the descendants of immigrants.
The United States, as a whole, and New York, in particular, are proud of being a conglomerate of many nationalities; our country has always been a haven for people all over the world who are searching for freedom or opportunity. The inscription at the base of the Statue of Liberty in the New York harbor expresses this idea:
"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..."
