Your job as Tribal Expert is to become acquainted with the Native American

You will also be the storyteller for your group.
You need to be aware of the Native American way of thinking
And approaching life in contrast to the White way.

Task 1

Read the poem “Birdfoot’s Grandpa” by Joseph Bruchac.

Compare it to a part in the book Sacajawea.

Write about it in your journal.

Task 2

Read four Native American creation myths
(including the Shoshone one in the book).

Write a comparison of the four myths.

Task 3

Read the Coyote stories in Sacajawea.

Find out what the coyote symbolizes in Native American Culture.

 Is it always the same?

Task 4

Read the lyrics for the song “Colors of the Wind.”

The song illustrates a point of view of the Native American
opposing the White point of view.

Find quotations from the book Sacajawea that are evidence of this.
