Valentine Exchange Collaborative Class Project; Student Project

Project Information 

Students from Second Grade Classes in the Capital Region of New York State created Valentines from a variety of materials and submitted them for display on the World Wide Web. Valentines needed to include writing as well as Art work.
Frogs and Toads Internet 
Activity 
Project Information This Webquest, entails having students research information to learn about the similarities and differences of frogs and toads. As a culminating activity,  students write a summary of a Frog and Toad story by Arnold Lobel.  Teacher worksheets are included and a variety of links to games, jokes and  weird frog facts. There is a variety of ways to present this project.  The class may view the project as a group or in small groups as they begin to work on the performance task.  This could also be viewed via an LCD projector.
Rhyme Time PowerPoint Project Information This is a Power Point Presentation featuring an interactive program for students to learn rhyming. 
Meet the Author Internet Activity Project Information This project is designed for elementary students to enhance their technology skills while researching information about authors and illustrators and their books.
Save the Earth Internet Activity Project Information  This treasure hunt will allow the students to develop an understanding of the origin and importance of Earth Day.
Milton Explores Letters and Sounds Internet Activity Project Information

This site is an organized collection of games from the Internet that reinforce select pre- reading skills.  It was designed to give kindergarten students opportunities to practice letter recognition, letter sounds, and beginning word skills.  It is assumed that children will have some previous knowledge of these skills before using the games.

Little Brown Bear Internet Activity Project Information This project focuses on getting students to create their own stories and share them with others. It covers all areas of language arts including writing, reading, speaking, and listening.  Connections to different content areas could easily be made through related activities. Students in the early stages of reading and writing could use this activity to practice new skills acquired. Expectations will vary throughout the year depending on individual student abilities. This is a daily classroom activity that could take 5 minutes or longer depending on how or if you decide to connect it to other curriculum.
Alphabet Alley Internet Activity Project Information Alphabet Alley is an interactive Internet activity designed for non-readers and beginning readers.  In the alphabet alley, beginning readers will find the ABC's and their letter sounds.  They will play games and use interactive activities to practice their letter skills. 
Celebrating  Easter Internet Activity Project Information This project is about the celebration of Easter.  It will be used in the classroom to teach the children the history of Easter.  Children will complete the lesson individually on the classroom computers.  This will be done at different times throughout the day. 
Respect PowerPoint Project Information This Power Point Presentation was designed to introduce the topic of Respect and what it means to be honest, courteous, cooperative and responsible.  Activities include listening to a song about manners and taking digital pictures of children being courteous
Snowy Day Collaborative Class Project; Student project Project Information  Students generated text and illustrations for their favorite snow day activities after listening to the story, "The Snowy Day," by Ezra Jack Keats. A second activity involving graphing of the favorites was also included by some classes.
The Jolly Postman Collaborative Class Project; Student Project Project Information  After listening to the story , "The Jolly Postman or Other People’s Letters" by Allan and Janet Ahlberg, students will respond to the literature by creating an illustration or writing a poem. 
Safe in School PowerPoint Project Information This is a Power Point Presentation featuring an interactive program for students to learn about keeping safe in school; including some rules for fire drills, manners, and good school behavior. 
Tall Tales PowerPoint; Student Projects Project Information  This project is developed for second grade students who will be using the treasure hunt to help enhance their understanding of tall tales.  Students will focus on characters such as Paul Bunyan, Johnny Appleseed, John Henry and
Sluefoot Sue to help their understanding.
Storybook ABC's Collaborative Web Page; Student Project  Project Information  After having been read a classic or a favorite trade book, children will brainstorm a list of words (one for each letter of the alphabet) that relate to the story. Each word will be used in a sentence. Each child will illustrate a sentence.
Author Study PowerPoint; Student Research Project Information  Learn about many different authors by viewing a variety of slides and links with related information.
