Citing Resources Used in Educational Projects

It is becoming increasingly important to give credit and correctly cite resources used in educational projects, including web pages. When developing a project during the workshops offered at NYNET Resources for Teachers we suggest the following when using non -original resources in your projects:

  1. Look for free resources. Many sites offer free images and sounds to use in educational, non for profit    projects.
  2. Always read the Acceptable Use or Privacy policy on the source you would like to borrow a resource from. If there is no policy, do not use the resource. Do not assume that the resource is free if you cannot locate an acceptable use policy.
    * It is a good idea to print out the acceptable use policy for resources that you include in your project.
  3. If the resource is copyrighted, you must obtain permission from the author to use it. Don't assume that if a resource is not copyrighted it is free.
  4. Regardless of whether or not the resource is free or not, you must cite any resources you use in your project.
